The Church and the Pub
Featuring our first guest conductor and co-curator, Alexander Blachly.
The concert explores the relationship of secular music, including drinking songs, and sacred music. We will feature the well-known unsolved mystery L’homme armée, a drinking song that was used as the basis for more than 40 masses, a subject that has intrigued me since my childhood, as well as Medieval tunes that were used for both secular and religious purposes and two contemporary pieces that explore these same ideas. The evening thus represents a different conception of the sacred and secular than we experience in our modern society, and one that should be fascinating for our audience.
